Oregon Morning Song

Listen to waves tuned to light
absorbed by tidal clouds, mist

of morning surf, frigid
green-gray sea crashes

over sculpted rocks, flowing
sand. Your footprints wash

away, gulls cry for their morning
feast, I sing for your return.

Sand crabs scurry, pelicans drift
by blue horizons, white sun

pierces clouds, tide sweeps logs,
forests revive. The sky blows

riffs of wind and rain, your wings
sail through turbulence.
